A White Christmas in OK

With it being our first Christmas with a little one, we weren't too sure what to expect. We definitely didn't expect to have a white Christmas in Oklahoma. It started raining in the morning of Christmas Eve, and it kept precipitating throughout the day. It changed from rain to sleet, to freezing rain, and finally to snow. We ended up with 14" of snow and 3-4' drifts. I guess this is what happens when you have 50 mph winds. On Christmas Eve, we were supposed to go to our Children's Pastor's house for supper. However, once it started to get bad, I decided to see if she would just come over here. She agreed to come over and ended up spending two nights with us. We had so much fun with her and she made some really awesome food. It was really nice to have here so that she could take pictures for us. Here is a picture of our candlelight Christmas eve dinner. Our Christmas tree. I am not sure why our lights did this when I took the picture. Oh well, I think it looks neat.Family picture on Christmas Morning Christmas morning we got up and Ben made us stuffed French toast. By this time, Logan was ready to go back to bed, so he didn't actually get to open presents until the afternoon. We talked to both of our families on Skype so that they could see him open some of his presents. Here are some pictures and videos of Logan opening his gifts. I guess the way Logan determines if it is a good gift or not is by how it tastes. LOGAN'S FIRST SNOW After we opened Christmas presents, we all got dressed and went out and played in the snow. Logan was not sure what to think of it and he definitely was not able to move in his snow suit. Logan ready to go outside. Logan in the snow. Logan and Ben lying in the snow. Logan not too happy about making a snow angel. Logan standing in one of the snow drifts. Logan checking out the snow Logan in front of a snow drift which was located behind our house. Overdue December Update

We finished off the month of November by taking Logan to the doctor for a possible ear infection. Unfortunately, he did have one. Then the following Monday, he went back to the doctor for his six month well baby check. His stats were as follows: Height: 27 3/4" the 88th percentile Weight: 17 lbs 11oz in the 51st percentile Head Circumference: 44.75 cm in the 77th percentile Just to give an idea how fast he is growing, from the week before to his well baby check up he had gained 7 ounces. The week after his well baby check Ben took him back for another possible ear infection. Fortunately, his ears were clear, the nurse said that it was probably just the fact that he is teething. He gained another 3 ounces at this appointment. So just in this month he has gained about 10 ounces. Logan already has two teeth. We noticed the first one toward the end of November. Then Ben said that he thought that another one was poking through. But then he said nevermind, so I checked the next day and there was another tooth in there. He is also becoming very mobile. At the beginning of the month, Logan could roll to get where he needed to go. Then he started scooting everywhere, but he mostly went backwards. Here are some pictures of how he backed himself up under the tv tray. Next he started sticking his butt up in the air, in efforts to crawl. We found this to be very amusing and hopefully you will also. He puts soo much effort into "crawling." He has learned to do the army crawl. He is getting places a lot quicker than he used to. He has also started pulling himself up on things. He did it twice on November 29, which was the first day that he did this. He has done it a couple more times since then, but he doesn't do it all the time. Finally Logan loves to eat. He has moved from just rice cereal to vegetables some fruits and also finger foods. He gets so excited when it is time to eat. The one night we were trying to get him to eat carrots ( I think). Well he wasn't into them, so we offered him some smashed bananas. He wasn't sure at first but then he just started diving for them. We would give him a couple bites of carrots and then hold the spoon under his nose with the bananas. As soon as he smelled them, he would chomp down on the spoon. It was quite comical. Unfortunately when I grabbed the camera, he stopped doing it. Well I think this is a long enough update.

Thanksgiving and Beyond

Ben and I decided to stay home for Thanksgiving. We invited one of our friends from church to come over and join us. It was such a relaxing day. We enjoyed the Macy's parade and really good food. Here is a picture of Logan in his Thanksgiving bib from Great Great Aunt Lisa. Thank you so much for thinking of this, because neither Ben nor I thought to get him something like this.We even left him have some sweet potatoes, from a jar of course, and some mashed potatoes. He didn't care too much for the mashed potatoes. Logan really enjoys eating. When we put him in his high chair, his feet and arms start moving until we offer his cereal to him. He is really good about letting me or Ben feed him. For the most part he doesn't try to help us with the spoon. Grandma Smith sent Logan his first Christmas present that he was allowed to open. I think that he was fascinated by the paper than the actual present. A not so good first is that Logan has his first ear infection. I am so glad that he takes his medicine with no problems. Even though he has an ear infection he is still a lot of fun. Well I will call it quits for now. I will try to update next week after Logan's 6month check up.

Growing up too quickly

Why is it that kids have to grow so quickly??? It continues to amaze us how muchLogan has developed in just 5 months. He is getting better at sitting up by himself. Here is a video of him playing while sitting up. He loves toys that play music and have dancing lights. Logan has also discovered his legs. He enjoys standing in his exersaucer while playing with a variety of toys. He has even figured out how to turn to get the toys that are located behind him. While playing, he always seems to be concentrating so hard on what he is doing.

Logan's 1st Halloween

For Logan's first Halloween, we went to the church and participated in trunk or treat. Initially Ben thought that we were supposed to get a real trunk and decorate it. But I explained that we already had the trunk, it was the trunk of our car. He wasn't too excited to dress up as anything, so I tried to keep it as simple as possible. We decorated our trunk with balloons that were supposed to resemble M&Ms. Unfortunately, I didn't get any family pictures of us with my camera because the batteries died. But here are a few pictures after we got home. Logan has been working on teeth. He drooled so much that his M was peeling off of his shirt by the end of the night. Since we didn't take Logan trick or treating, he decided he would just enjoy his toes instead of candy. This is one of his new favorite things to do.
It is almost as if he is looking at me saying, "Mom, is it ok if I eat these?"

Eating Styrofoam

On Saturday October 31, Ben and I were eating french toast sticks for breakfast and Logan kept reaching for them. So I decided to let him try one of his rice "cookies." I pulled it out of the package and gave it to him. Normally he puts everything in his mouth, but he was a little puzzled by this and didn't immediately put it in his mouth. It sounded and dissolved just like styrofoam. Eventually, he did eat one whole rice cookie and he didn't make a huge mess with it. All I can say is I am glad I am not a baby and expected to eat that.

Newest Milestone

Logan is growing and learning so much. He has figured out how to make his toy on his chair play music. Before he would just sit and stare at the toys and now he actually interacts with them. This is how Logan keeps Ben company while he works in the kitchen. He has also figured out how to roll from his back to his belly. We thought that he did it last week, but didn't actually see him, so we weren't sure. However on Tuesday, he did it all day long. When we put him in his crib that night, he did it again. He was just staring at his crib mattress scratching it. It made for a long night because he would roll himself over and then get his arms and legs out of the railing. He obviously doesn't like to sleep on his belly, because he would wake up crying. Usually he just grunts to let me know that he is up.

Bubble Bath

On Monday, Ben was giving Logan his bath. We don't give Logan bubble baths, however, when he was in the tub he had some gas. Ben said that Logan enjoyed his hillbilly bubble bath.

Penn State Football

On Saturday, I got Logan all dressed in his new Penn State onesie and we went to a baby shower. When we got back we got to watch some of the game. Logan was lying on the floor playing when I turned the game on. As soon as I turned the tv on, he immediately turned to face that direction. He has just become so fascinated with the tv.

Logan and Lydia

I was really excited to get back to Oklahoma so that I could see the newest Montgomery girl, Lydia Grace. I was able to see her on Friday after we got home. On Tuesday, we decided to get some pictures of Logan and Lydia together.
Logan is almost 4 months and Lydia is almost 1 month.Logan just looks so big next to Lydia. Both of them moving
We are excited to watch them grow up together over the next few years.

Tennessee

On our way back home we stopped in Tennessee for a few days. After we came out from eating breakfast, a guy said "Have you ever seen a drive thru wedding?" We hadn't until that day when we looked across the street and saw this...Yes this couple pulled up to the outside of this chapel and were getting married by a minister at a drive thru window. I think that we have seen most everything now.
We also went up to the Great Smoky Mountains which is the most visited national park. The longer we were there, the more the fog moved in until you couldn't even see the mountains anymore.
